NTSC-U Brawl with NTSC-J voices
Posted on September 26, 2009
Follow these simple steps and you’ll be playing Brawl sans the English voice acting.
For this procedure you will need:
- A NTSC-U Super Smash Bros. Brawl Iso (not provided, you’ll have to rip it)
- WiiScrubber and MakeKeyBin
- Japanese Brawl sound file
- A way to burn or load Wii Isos
- First, download and extract the contents of the WiiScrubber package from the link provided. Within it you will find a program named “MakeKeyBin.exe”. Run it and follow the directions.
- Now, open up “WIISrcubber.exe” and click “Load ISO”. Select your NTSC-U Smash Bros. Brawl Iso and then click “Open”. It will now load and display the disc contents.
- Click the “+” sign next to the main partition (mine was partition 0) to expand it and look for a category named “sound”. Expand this category and then find the file named “smashbros_sound.brsar”.
- Download the NTSC-J Brawl Sound file I have provided. Once finished, extract the contents. It should yield a file named “smashbros_sound.brsar”.
- Go back into WIIScrubber and right-click “smashbros_sound.brsar” and then choose “Replace”. From here find the new “smashbros_sound.brsar” file that you just extracted and then choose “Open”.
- The scrubber should tell you that the file has successfully been replaced and then you should be good to go. You can now exit the program.
- Now just burn the Iso to a disc or mount it on your USB drive and load it as usual. Done!

Hey there, thanks a LOT for doing such a thing!
I’d just like to ask… My SSBB ISO has already been Scrubbed. And so, I just did as you’ve ordered. Problem is, how do we save? I’ve just randomly decided that “trim” was the save button. But is it?
Reply a.s.a.p, please. Thanks a lot.

Hi there! I’d like to thank you for all your effort and stuff. I’m quite happy that I won’t have to hear “Bring it on!” or “I fight for my friends.” Anymore
.
I’ve got a question though. In the wiiscrubber, how am I supposed to save it? My ISO has already been scrubbed beforehand. Is it the button “trim”?

Thank you so much for the help!
I have a question. Do you know how to ISO hack to create a fully functional Brawl+ ISO?
I currently use the SD file replacement code through Gecko OS, but I would rather play Brawl+ from my usb drive because my disc reader is wearing out. I tried running a virgin Brawl iso from my USB loader with Ocarina on but it never boots.
I have searched for hours trying to find a guide on ISO hacking for Brawl+ but I haven’t been able to find one. The Brawl+ website only shows the SD method. If you know of a guide or have any advice, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks again for your voice replacement guide.

@Toner
Yes, I’ve been running my Brawl+ from a USB drive. What you can try is the Snapshot method. The newest Brawl+ Nightly Auto-Updater (Windows) has an option to update your SD card using the Snapshot method. You can read about it here: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=226649
If you’re still confused, or I’m missing something, you can leave another comment.

You are suppose to scrub it right? and use the scrubbed iso?

No, you don’t need to scrub it at all. After it’s replaced, you’re done. Burn the modified ISO.

You do not need to trim it to save it, it automatically saves whatever you have done to the iso after the actions are applied. If you have a scrubbed iso, fine, it shouldn’t make a difference. WiiScrubber only scrubs isos if you tell it to.
