MUA3 Guide – Iron Man

Overview

Iron Man’s strengths lie in being able to provide a mix of both long-range and close-range crowd control. His good health stat and decent defensive capabilities allow him to fight in close quarters when he needs to. His abilities hit far and wide and he can also reliably help stun bosses thanks to his Thruster Charge ability.

Traits

Flight
Iron Man can fly by pressing the jump button twice. Flying helps avoid danger and increases movement speed. Hold the jump button to ascend or hold A to descend. Tap the jump button to cancel flight.

Attacks & Abilities

Light Attack Melee
A 4-hit combo string. All four hits are melee-type attacks.

Heavy Attack Energy
A quick one-two blast from his repulsors. Both hits are energy-type attacks.

Air Attack Energy
A rapid-fire series of blasts from his repulsors. The attack is ranged and will slow his descent if you mash the attack button. All hits are energy-type attacks.

Unibeam EnergyBeam
Iron Man fires his signature beam from the arc reactor on his chest. This functions as a standard beam attack, which can be held to continue firing the beam. Useful for cleaning up weak enemies in a straight line ahead or whittling down strong enemies and bosses. Generally deals a very good amount of damage when used as a synergy attack.

Repulsor Array EnergyArea Assault
A stationary spinning repulsor attack that has great range. Very useful on large groups of enemies because of its damage capability and reach.

Thruster Charge MeleeCharge
Launches himself head first toward enemies, dealing a nice amount of stagger damage. This attack is useful for getting into or out of situations and can be charged to deal extra Stagger damage without using more EP. Compared to other Charge synergy attacks, it is long-range and cannot be steered.

Missile Barrage EnergyBurst
Fires a volley of missiles that target and auto-track enemies. This attack is great for cleaning up scattered enemies from afar. The missile range is very good, so it can be used from almost anywhere in the stage.

EX: Extreme
Iron Man calls forth two Iron Drones and then performs a triple Unibeam attack, all in unison. This attack has a small convergence point, so it works best on bosses and powerful enemies directly in front of him.

Strategy

Boss / Strong Enemy
If fighting a single boss or a tight cluster of powerful enemies, use Thruster Charge to take down their Stagger gauge. If you’re in a large group of enemies, Repulsor Array can work well to deal widespread Stagger damage, with the final swing dealing the most damage.

After you’ve stunned the enemy, the best option for damage is to use Unibeam as a synergy attack. Even if you can’t get a synergy with it, it’s still very good for dealing sustained damage and lets you attack from far away. If the target is surrounded by lots of enemies and you find yourself within range, Repulsor Array can be used to deal lots of widespread damage. When you’re low on EP, Iron Man’s heavy attack and air attack both work well to replenish energy.

Weak Enemy
When in a group of enemies, Repulsor Array is a great option for taking out large numbers of enemies due to how far it reaches. His Unibeam synergies can also be a great damage option if available. If enemies are far and scattered around the stage, use Missile Barrage to clean them up. Light attacks work well at scooping up enemies and replenishing EP.

Tips

  • Unibeam synergies are one of his best options for dealing damage, so make sure to learn what it synergizes with. To make the most out of the reach of the beam, use the ability when Iron Man’s back is close to a wall so that the length of the beam will hit as many enemies as possible.
  • Thruster Charge covers a good amount of ground, so you can also use it to quickly get out of bad situations while also dealing some damage to anyone in your path.
  • If you’re low on health and can’t afford to get hit, his air attack works well at keeping him away from ground-level attacks while both dealing damage and replenishing EP.
  • Pepper in light and heavy attacks to keep your EP up. Using an ability directly after a light or heavy attack will help to speed up the light/heavy end animation.
  • If you want to spam a heavy attack, hold L while repeatedly tapping the heavy attack button to speed up the end animation and use the attack at a faster rate.
